Supplementary nutrition menu in Odisha revised

The Odisha government has revised the supplementary nutrition menu with additional nutrition food.

This was clarified to the Collectors and District Social Welfare Officers  over videoconferencing during a review by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi today.

Padhi directed the Collectors to keep strict vigil over the quality and quantity of the nutritious food stuff supplied to various categories of women and children and to implement the revised menu in all Anganwadis from July 15 this year.

The officials were also directed to ensure regular supply of the materials at Aganwadi Centers.

Women & Child Welfare Department Secretary Anu Garg said that the menu has been revised as per the revised cost of SNP per head.

She clarified that hot cooked meal served in AWCs to the children between age group of 3 to 6 will have at least five eggs per week per child.

In addition to this, the new menu for morning snacks in AWCs include Ragi & Besan ladoo on Monday & Thursday, Groundnut, Chuda ladoo on Tuesday & Thursday and sprouted moong with jaggery or seasonal fruits on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The take home ration (THR) for children in the age group of 6 months to 3 years have been revised to 12 no of eggs, 1.5 kgs of dry ration consisting of Suji/Ragi/Maize/Besan/Sugar and 2.45 kg of Chhatua per month, she said.

Similarly, the THR for Women and Nursing mother per month has been revised to 12 eggs, Chikki or ladoo made of groundnut/rasi/jiggery (each piece 24.4 gm weight) 25 pieces and  Chhatua 4.9 kgs, Garg added.

The adolescent girls in the age group of 11-14 will get 16 eggs, 4 kgs of chhatua and 25 pieces of ladoo, she said.

The Secretary said the revised menu for severely underweight children in age group of 6 months to 3 years includes 12 eggs along with 83 pieces of ladu and 4.9 kgs of chhatua while THR for severely underweight children in 3 to 6 years includes hot cooked meals and morning snacks at AWC daily along with additional 1.8 kgs of chhtua and 42 pieces of ladu as THR per month.

She made it clear to the officials that the dry ration and Chhatua THR should be supplied once in each month and boiled eggs should be supplied in each week.

The Chief Secretary directed the Collectors to organize district and Block level sensitization camps of the ICDS personnel, THR manufacturing SHGs, Anganwadi Workers, members of the Mothers’ Committees and Janch Committees.

Timely release of funds to the AWCs for morning snacks, hot cooked meal and eggs was also emphasized by the Chief Secretary.

Notably, earlier the per head SNP cost was enhanced to Rs.8.00. Rs.9.50, Rs, 12.00 and Rs.9.50 for Children from 6 months to 6 years, pregnant and nursing mothers, severely mal nourished children and adolescent girls respectively.

Around 46.29 lakh children and pregnant mother and 55,568 adolescent girls will be benefited by this new menu with enhanced cost.

Director Women and Child Development Prasanta Kumar Reddy along with senior officers of the Department participated in the review.
