Legal wrangles halt collection of water tax from industrial houses: Govt


Bhubaneswar, March 27

Over Rs 3 crore is pending with big industrial houses for water usage and State government is unable to collect the amount due to legal hurdles, the State Assembly was informed today.

In reply to a question of BJP MLA Dillip Ray, Water Resources Minister Niranjan Pujari today said in the House that companies who have approached courts include, Mahanadi Coal Fields, NALCO, Balarpur Industries, Paradip Phosphates, Orient Paper Mill, East Coast Railways, Reliance, Mangalam Timbers, Aska Cooperative Sugar Mill, Vedant Alumina, Odisha Power Consortium etc.

He said as much as Rs 571 crore arrear pending with 261 companies which include Neelachal Ispat Nigam, Odisha Mining Corporation, IDCOL, Paradip Port Trust, Essar Steel, Birla Tyres, Maheswari Ispat, East Coast Railways and MCL.

The Minister said the State government is taking legal recourse to recover the amount.
