Bhubaneswar, May 17
As part of its CSR initiative, Utkal Alumina (UAIL), an Aditya Birla Group company, located at Kashipur Block in Rayagada district, has initiated a slew of measures to ensure availability and accessibility of safe drinking water to the villagers in the periphery areas.
“Our prime focus is on taking appropriate measures for providing better healthcare services to people living in the periphery of our plant. Towards this, we are ensuring adequate supply of safe drinking water in many places. This prevents as well as protects people from diseases caused by contaminated water,” UAIL Unit Head & President N Nagesh said on the initiative.
Assistant Vice President (Admin, CSR, Land & Legal) commented, “Utkal Alumina has set up over 110 bore-wells in the villages with hand pumps that enable more than 3,200 households access water. Many wells have been dug in the non-motorable villages of Kodipari and Maikanch Gram Panchayats.”
The project is implemented in collaboration with the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) Department of the Government of Odisha.
Additionally, the company has also taken up the maintenance of defunct hand pumps in the peripheral villages.
It has repaired more than 60 hand pump sets in 16 different peripheral villages in FY 2017-18 besides disinfecting bore wells on routine basis.
Alongside, it has constructed spring-based water supply systems in Dwimundi and Khangarmunda village and has repaired one at Biriguda which caters to the needs of more than 270 families in these villages.
This initiative of Utkal Alumina has been lauded by the villagers and the district administration.
