Nearly two lakh Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) have been established in Odisha during the last four years with an investment of over Rs 10,000 crore, thus generating employment for nearly 6 lakh persons, MSME Minister Prafulla Samal said here today.
Samal said at a press conference after a review by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the end of fourth year of the fourth term of BJD government in Odisha, that as many as 3,22,028 Micro, Small and Medium enterprises have been established in State with an investment of Rs.15959 crore and employment generation to 13.35 lakh persons till March, 2018.
Additionally, 3752 motivational camps have been organised across the state to motivate 3,23,451 youth for setting up MSMEs. 20,049 youths have been provided with entrepreneurship training under Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDP), the Minister said.
Samal said a link for 4-week online Learning and Development (L&D) course on Entrepreneurship has been provided free of charge on the www.startupodisha.gov.in portal for the benefit of budding entrepreneurs/youth and district level Single Window Clearance Authorities have approved 542 projects between April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2018 with total project cost of Rs.2040 crore.
These units are likely to generate employment potential to 21,730 persons.
“Out of these, 67 projects have already started production and 119 are under implementation,” the Minister said.
A total 898 MSMEs have been provided financial assistance of Rs. 118.82 crore under the different government policies since 2014-15, he asserted.
For organised development of MSMEs in clusters, 11 clusters have already been assisted for development of common facilities under the MSE-CDP (4) and Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFRUTI) (7).
Under PMEGP, 24,671 micro units have been promoted with margin money assistance of Rs.492.69 crore by generating employment to 1,99,091 persons since 2008-09, he said.
During the last four Years (2014-15 to 2017-18), 10,330 Micro Enterprises have been promoted with margin money assistance of Rs.222.46 crore with employment opportunity to 74,812 persons, Samal added.
The Minister said as regards infrastructure for Food Processing industries, MITS Mega Food Park at Rayagada has already become operational, Mega Food Park at Deras (Khurda) is at advanced stage of implementation.
State Government has started the Startup Odisha Initiative with the launch of Startup Odisha Policy and Startup Odisha Portal and till date 212 startups are registered under the initiative and 24 of them have been extended assistance under the Policy, he said.
In order to scout grass root innovation and create awareness about entrepreneurship, a month long Start up Yatra was launched in State on January 30 this year, he said.
“During the yatra, the Startup van equipped with facility for pitching ideas travelled over 3,500 kms in the month of February across 50 institutions in 16 districts of the State,” he said.
The Minister said over 10 Boot Camps were held, overall, 3600 plus ideas were received both on the van and during the boot camps of which 125 ideas were selected for a 3-day Accelerator Programme, out of which the experts shortlisted 75 of these ideas for incubation.
All these shortlisted 75 innovators have been given free incubation offers by reputed incubators. Besides, 71 youth have been provided assistance of Rs.43.50 lakh under the Odisha Youth Innovation Fund.
Samal said, the State has also done well in more than doubling its exports during the last 4 years from Rs.19,552 crore to Rs.47,958 crore (P) in 2017-18.
For achieving the highest rate of growth amongst all the states during 2016-17, the Union Government recognised Odisha as a Champion State.
The State has registered the growth of 245% in exports during the last 4 years i.e. since 2014-15.
In order to facilitate MSMEs of the State to show case their product and increase market avenues, MSME Trade Fair was organised along with Entrepreneur’s Week from March 5-10, 2018. 320 participants including 29 International delegates from Iran, Germany, South Korea, Bangladesh participated in the Trade fair. There was footfall of 1,75,457 persons generating business amounting to Rs.28.07 crore.
Under an innovative partnership with Facebook, total 3,300 micro entrepreneurs and SHG members have been provided ‘digital marketing training’ under their #SheMeansBusiness# and “BoostYourBusiness” programmes.
