Bhubaneswar, Sept 22

The House Committee constituted by Odisha Assembly speaker to investigate the derogatory remarks against Odisha made by journalist Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, today summoned four persons including the editors of two media houses.

Chairman of the committee Narasingha Mishra told reporters that summons have also been issued to Odisha DGP and Director Intelligence.

“The summonses have been issued to the concerned people to appear before the House Committee by September 28,” said Mishra after the first meeting of the committee today.

Mishra said that notice will only be served to the accused if substantial evidence is found.

“The Committee will subsequently decide if evidence against anyone else comes up during the course of investigation,” he added.

Notably, Speaker PK Amat had formed a six-member committee to probe the alleged derogatory remarks of Mitra about State’s Lawmakers, Jagannath and Konark Temples and against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The other members of the committee are BJD legislators Debiprasad Mishra, Arun Sahoo, Sanjay Dasburma and Pramila Mallic and BJP Legislature Party leader KV Singh Deo.
